Global Expressions

 Please write a short paragraph describing water practices and issues in your country.  You may answers all or some of the questions below.  You may do research on the internet, talk to your parents or write from your own experiences.

Where do people get water from in your country?  What are some of the water issues in your country?  Are there shortages of water?  drought?  Can anyone access clean drinking water and sanitation in your country?  What is your country doing to conserve water?  How concerned are people in your country about water issues?

You have been studying refugees now for the last few weeks.  Soon you will have the opportunity to talk further with some refugees and local experts who help refugees.  What questions do you still have regarding the experience of refugees?  List 7-10 questions you have about the refugees’ experience.  They can be questions about refugees from a particular area such as Darfur or they can be general questions.  List your questions under the comments here.

What do you think about what’s going on in Darfur? What do you think should be done by the international community?

What difficulties do you think refugees face when they have to leave their home country?  Describe three difficulties you think refugees might face.

According to the text, It’s All Connected: 

“A number of factors contribute to an individuals quality of life, some of which can be measured or tracked.  These include a person’s income and his or her access to education, health care, goods and services.  Other contributors to quality of life are harder to measure such as happiness, creative expression, religious or spiritual involvement, and the relative degree of freedom and justice enjoyed by an individual.”

What does having a good quality of life mean to you?  What does a person need to have in order to live a healthy, happy, productive life?

Now that you have read a little about global issues, identify two global issues that you think are important and explain why you think they are important and of interest to you.
